2011 Annual Meeting & Awards for Excellence
October 14, 2011 · West Point Museum
GHHN Annual Meeting on Universal Design a Universal Success!Today's museum community is becoming more inclusive. This year's meeting focused on Universal Design and how we can make our cultural heritage more accessible to people from all walks of life, including those with disabilities and specials needs. People with special needs are often leery of the idea of visiting museums. That's partly because they don't know how they will be received, and partly because they are skeptical themselves that there is anything there they can do. Attendees of the 2011 Annual Meeting seized this opportunity to learn more about creating educational tours for those with limited sight such as "touch tours", engaging programs for children with Autism, and creating a unique experience for seniors with Alzheimer's Disease. The day featured two keynote speakers, two sessions of concurrent break-out presentations, a buffet luncheon, Hudson Valley wine and cheese networking reception, raffle prizes, museum product exhibitors, and more! Thank you to all our Sponsors, Exhibitors, Supporters and Attendees who made the day a great success! Thank you as well to our gracious hosts at the West Point Museum! |
