Awardee Poster Session Instructions

2019 Awards for Excellence: Poster Session Instructions

The Awards for Excellence will be given out first thing in the morning at 10 AM. We'll take individual awardee photos and then one of all the awardees together. The poster session will take place at 3:35 PM - you may do your set up during the afternoon Follow the Speaker session when all Conference attendees are out of the room.

POSTER SESSION OVERVIEW:
Haven't ever done a poster session? Here's what you need to know.  Posters efficiently communicate concepts and information to an audience using a combination of visuals and texts, interacting with viewers in an informal way.  The poster should include an abstract - a concise written summary of the project that you are being recognized for.  This abstract is not a complete summary of the undertaking but instead highlights the most important points.

Presenters stand by their poster throughout the session, to offer information and engage in conversation with conference attendees. Each presenter makes brief remarks and answers questions to those who are circulating in the room. Basically, it's like a science fair model -  here are some images from last year's Annual Conference that may help you wrap your brain around it:

SPECIFICS:

We will have a tri-fold display board for you to attach your poster to.  See the specifications here.

Your poster should be sized to 24 wide x 36 high so it can be affixed to the middle section of the tri-fold board. We will have binder clips and pushpins available for you. You can have the poster printed out at Staples/Office Max to that specific size - but do not have it mounted.

You will also each have a 60 inch round table where you may put any of your materials related to your project or your organization.

If your nomination included a video - you may play the video on a laptop or ipad - but you must also create a poster to present and you must be present to answer questions and explain the project.

If your nomination included an exhibition catalog or publication, you should bring copies of the exhibition catalog or publication.
You are permitted to sell copies from your table, if you would like.

Finally, here are some EXCELLENT tips for humanities conference posters:
