Emergency Planning & Recovery Techniques

MISSION
Greater Hudson Heritage Network serves the museum and history communities as a catalyst to:

  • Advance professional standards and practices.
  • Build the capacity of organizations to meet their missions, and
  • Create a network of effective and professional stewards of regional history and culture- now and in the future.

VISION
We envision communities that value the exploration and preservation of their heritage and culture, and are empowered to save it for and interpret it to future generations, through the leadership of museums and history organizations.

Greater Hudson Heritage Network of HISTORICAL AGENCIES & MUSEUMS serves member cultural organizations, their staffs, their boards and their communities in celebrated counties of the greater Hudson Valley - Metropolitan region, offering technical assistance, a resource network and professional development opportunities to advance the work of historians, historic house museums, heritage centers, historic sites, archives and libraries in this National Heritage Area.

History keepers are multifaceted and multicultural. They are archaeologists, architects, archivists, conservators, curators, educators, filmmakers, genealogy researchers, interpreters, preservationists, public historians, volunteers and all manner of consultants! GHHN's members collect, preserve and interpret the region's story in a diversity of sites amid urban, suburban and rural settings that span the 17th to 21st centuries.

Come, meet the heritages of communities from New York City to Albany through public and professional explorations of this uncommon region. Please join in! Let GHHN be your regional guide and history keepers' companion. Join your colleagues in the pursuit of quality stewardship, community documentation and 21st century interpretation, making history meaningful in the minds of the greater Hudson Valley.

GHHN provides a forum for dialogue among educational, cultural and tourism organizations collaborating to achieve a greater public access to the region.

GHHN encourages organizations to provide professional development opportunities for volunteers and to engage professional consultants to enhance the operations of historical societies and museums.

GHHN promotes participation in diverse, engaging programming and learning opportunities among our members and their public audiences.
