Greater Hudson Heritage Network’s Awards For Excellence program seeks to recognize and commend exceptional efforts among GHHN members. Awards are made to projects that exemplify creativity and professional vision resulting in a contribution to the preservation and interpretation of the historic scene, material culture, and diversity of the region.
NOMINATION DEADLINE: Monday, August 3, 2020 CRITERIA FOR JUDGING
Nominations will be judged on the evidence of quality, creative use of resources, and long term significance by a peer jury of professionals, representing the history, museum, archives, and academic fields. |
As you may know, 2020 marks GHHN's 40th anniversary of service to the field. In honor of this momentous anniversary, combined with this year's Conference theme "Then Now Next: What Does the Future of Museums Look Like?", we have made some changes to our Awards process.
Awards will be made to organizations or individuals in the following categories: "Then" Awards are to honor work done in the past 15 years. Use this category as a 'lifetime achievement' award to celebrate and recognize organizations and/or individuals consistently doing great work in contributing to NYS' history and heritage keeping community. "Now" Awards are to honor work done in the past 5 years through today. This award is to celebrate and recognize noteworthy projects that have not previously been awarded by this program. It can also be given to recognize individuals or staff/volunteers working towards promoting and furthering a knowledge and appreciation of New York history. "Next" Awards are to celebrate recent work (within the last two years) that is ongoing and will continue into the future. These awards honor creativity and innovation in how we teach, preserve, and interpret NYS history. Next Awards celebrate the work that is adaptive in recognizing change, and will continue to move the museum field forward. "Next" Awards can also be used to recognize EMPs (Emerging Museum Professionals) and the good work they are doing. These three broad categories can honor:
Nominations reflecting work in creative re-interpretation of collections are strongly encouraged; nominations of collaborative or regionally focused projects are especially welcome. ELIGIBILITY
Any GHHN member (organizational or individual) can be nominated. Please note, for "Then" Awards, a history (10 or more years) of GHHN individual/organizational membership will raise priority. You are encouraged to nominate your own organization. Please do not submit a "Now" or "Next" nomination for a project previously awarded by this program. However, previously awarded projects may be included in the body of work honored in 'Then' Awards. *Not a GHHN Member? Click here to become one! VIRTUAL POSTER SESSION
We will again feature our awardees in a poster session - though the format will change due to the virtual nature of this year's Annual Conference. Should your nomination be selected for an award, we will ask you to participate in the virtual poster session. Our Annual Conference will take place on a virtual platform over six weeks. Each week will feature two hour blocks split into three 40 minute sessions. The Virtual Poster session will take place on October 14 over two sessions: one at 9:30 - 10: 15 AM and the second from 10:30 to 11:05. For the first session, we ask that awardees create 3 informational slides to present about your work. The slides should efficiently communicate concepts and information to an audience using a combination of visuals and texts, interacting with viewers in an informal way. The poster should include an abstract - a concise written summary of the project that you are being recognized for. This abstract is not a complete summary of the undertaking, but instead highlights the most important points. Each awardee will have a chance to present about their awarded work. In the second session, awardees will hold 'Office Hours'. Conference attendees can sign up to join your 'session' - much like people circulating over to your poster to engage in conversation, ask questions about the project, or to offer congratulations. |
