We've got great news!
GHHN is partnering in a 3 year major grant from the Institute of Museum and Library Services to share archival oral histories through radio programs, websites, mobile apps, and new media. Working in partnership with museums and libraries, together we will breath new life into the stories that represent the diverse voices of the Hudson Valley. Our goal is to reach a new generation of listeners. Voices is one of 48 projects from around the country to receive funding from IMLS this year. Together with the Southeastern New York Library Resources Council in Highland, Sound and Story Project and the Hudson River Valley Institute at Marist College in Poughkeepsie we received a National Leadership Grant from the Institute of Museum and Library Services to use the latest digital technology and social media outlets to repurpose archived oral history collections in a project titled “Voices of the Hudson Valley: Bringing New Technology to Old Stories for 21st Century Audiences.” Five organizations will be participating in the Voices of the Hudson Valley oral history project. The New Rochelle Public Library, Somers Historical Society, the Hudson River Maritime Museum and the Nyack Library are the first four to begin. Each will be taking their oral history interviews from audio cassette to digital stories that can be easily shared on the web, with mobile apps, in live events and on the radio. Short instructional videos will document each step and be posted on the web. A New Technology Conference hosted by the Greater Hudson Heritage Network and the Hudson River Valley Institute is planned.
