Carla T. Smith retired June 1, 2010 after serving the cultural nonprofit world for 40 years as a manager and fund raiser. She served 13 years as Executive Director of the Woodstock Guild of Craftsmen, a multi-arts organization and steward of the 1092 utopian Byrdcliffe Art Colony. During her career, Ms. Smith served ten years (1979-89) as General Manager of the Hudson Valley Philharmonic where she created award-winning educational programming and successfully matched a 3:1 NEA Challenge grant for endowment funds. As a development officer she worked for the American Shakespeare Theatre in Stratford, CT and was the first development director of the American Craft Museum in NYC. From 1992-95 she served as development director of America’s only national repertory company, The Acting Company in New York City.
Ms. Smith resides in Saugerties, NY. She holds a B.A. from Coe College and has graduate credits in archeology from the University of Wisconsin at Madison and the New York Institute of Arts. Her interests include Egyptian archeology and hiking. Her greatest accomplishment to date is traversing the 20 high mountain passes in Switzerland!
